SALARY : R196 278 per annum
CENTRE : Durban (2 Posts) Port Elizabeth (2 Posts) Stellenbosch/Cape Town (2 Posts)
REQUIREMENTS : A National Diploma or BSc degree in Agriculture with at least one of the following
subjects as a major: Horticulture, Botany, Plant Pathology, Entomology, Plant
Production/Protection, Agronomy, and Microbiology (you are required to furnish a credit certificate and/or statement of results). Relevant technical knowledge of
and experience in law enforcement. Knowledge of the Agricultural Pests Act,
1983 (Act 36 of 1983) and related regulations and international agreements to
ensure that the sanitary and Phytosanitary status of plants and plant products
comply with the relevant minimum requirements. Knowledge of relevant
legislation, international standards and agreements e.g. WTO-SPS, TBT and
IPPC. Good communication, problem-solving, interpersonal relations, conflict
handling, planning and organising skills. Computer literacy in MS Office software.
A valid driver’s licence and the ability to drive.
DUTIES : Enforce the Acts, related legislation and international agreements to ensure that
the sanitary and Phytosanitary status of plants and plant products comply with the
relevant minimum requirements. This includes the independent planning and
conducting of inspections and auditing of assignees respectively, and inspections
include sampling, testing, surveys, investigations, detections and administrative
tasks relating to these functions. The incumbent may be required to conduct
inspection away from his/her station as well as overnight away from his/her
station when necessary. Render service on short notice and after hours at or
away from his/her station when necessary.
