Joint Aid Management (JAM) is a South African founded humanitarian nonprofit organisation that works to empower Africans to create better lives for themselves. JAM SA seeks to employ a Design Monitoring and Evaluation Coordinator, to be based in Johannesburg.

Job Title: Design Monitoring and Evaluation Coordinator
Job Location: Johannesburg

The purpose of the position is to provides technical assistance in general programme monitoring and evaluation, designing programme management information system, developing indicators for monitoring program performance, developing and maintaining the JAMSA Performance Management Plan and project-level monitoring and evaluation plans, supporting project design and product development including nutrition surveys; produce annual reports on JAMSA performance, support JAMSA to learn from and make decisions based on monitoring and evaluation data.

Responsibilities:
 
Monitoring and Evaluation (80%)

  • Lead the JAMSA Programme team in establishing performance measures, collecting and analysing performance information, planning and managing evaluations and assisting the JAMSA management in using the performance information for decision-making and resource allocation
  • Provide Monitoring and Evaluation support in conjunction with Management in designing and planning for evaluations, special studies and assessments
  • Provide input into the design, implementation and dissemination of evaluations, special studies and assessments
  • Coordinate the creation of a Programme Performance Monitoring Plan including assessing the validity of the information and indicators that contribute to that plan
  • Assist the regional offices to select data collection methods for adequate monitoring and evaluation of the JAMSA programme as a whole (these methods may include field visits, quarterly reports, specialised surveys and other sources of information)
  • Coordinate with Management, the regular review of progress towards achieving JAMSA Programme Objectives including alignment to donor agreements
  • Coordinate the process for developing policy and procedure documents in the areas of monitoring and evaluation to align with the most current Strategic objectives
  • Assist Management in building DM&E capacities

Nutrition and food safety (20%)

  • Ensure that JAMSA food products meet industry practice safety standards; are of consistent quality and nutritionally appropriate for JAMSA target beneficiaries
  • Contribute to the planning of new Programme activities in Nutrition and school feeding; this includes providing input into assessments, Project Appraisal Documents, and Scopes of Work for new activities
  • Develop internal JAMSA training modules, prepare manuals, visual aids, course outlines, and other materials used in nutrition awareness.
  • Responsible for keeping up to date and in compliance with relevant legislation and food safety regulatory frameworks
  • Lead investigations into any customer complaints on nutrition product issue

Requirements: 

  • Relevant diploma or degree with minimum three years’ experience in a related role
  • English is required, and at least one local african language
  • Demonstrated knowledge of, and experience in monitoring and evaluating programmes including indicator development, study design, and data analysis in multiple sectors
  • Experience using knowledge management software or database is highly desired
  • Analytical skills and the ability to summarise disparate information in a clear and concise manner
  • Research and data collection methodology skills
  • Ability to lead and coordinate multiple offices through multiple step processes without being a direct supervisor (although appropriate authority will be given)
  • Skills in supporting staff with a variety of levels of knowledge and capabilities
  • Strong organisational skills in order to balance competing priorities
  • Ability to work independently to efficiently meet deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Oral and written communication skills to deal effectively with mid and high level partner contacts, the host government, and the local communities
  • Computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheet programmes and data base management
  • Drivers licence with one year experience of driving
  • Willingness to travel
