A project manager is the person who has the overall responsibility for the successful planning and execution of a project.  This involves a continuous process of integration, coordinating and directing of all project elements within the life cycle of the project.

Projects are never the same and can range from simple to complex and small to large.  The attributes of the project will determine the level of competency of the project manager to ensure the satisfactory management of the project.

For an IQ project manager a healthy balance of leadership, management, communication and interpersonal skills are very important. We expect:

  • Competence in respect of project initiation, project planning, project scoping, cost management, time management, project risk management, communication management and change management
  • Aptitude to analyse project requirements and determine the most effective approach to structure the project
  • Ability to integrate all project elements and organise project work into manageable activities
  • Ability to identify and analyse risks and determine mitigation strategies for risks
  • Ability to adequately communicate project related information to affected stakeholders
  • Aptitude to convert project statistics and facts into presentable formats
  • Ability to balance business drivers and project requirements to ensure project success for both the business sponsors and the various project stakeholders
  • The ability to transfer project management skills and project knowledge to team members
  • A good application and working knowledge of project schedule software such as Microsoft Project
  • Effective communication, negotiation and problem solving skills
  • Proven experience in the management of large projects with regards to project team sizes, budget and complexity
  • A formal project management qualification (e.g. PMP)
  • Three to five years project management experience
