The U.S. Consulate in Cape Town is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for a position of Information Management Assistant in the Information Management Office.

 

 

 

 

Job Title: Information Management Assistant
Location: Cape Town

Job Summary:
Basic Function of the Position:
The incumbent supports all unclassified systems hardware and software for the American Consulate in Cape Town, South Africa and reports directly to the Information Systems Officer and indirectly to the Information Programs Officer. The incumbent is a resident systems professional with responsibilities and duties that include: manage web and SharePoint applications; oversee server and client operations; monitor backup systems; administer user accounts and email; assess network security and reporting requirements; and manage necessary project portfolios in line with State Department
communication requirements, implementations, and expansions.

Required Qualifications:
Education

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Information Technology is required.

Work Experience:

Three years progressive experience in telecommunications (hardware) or equivalent database/web programming (software) is required.

Language:

Level 4 – Fluent; written/spoken, including the ability to translate.

Job Knowledge:

Experience with installation, configuration, upgrades, and programming of network systems/infrastructure, and end-user desktop information systems; common aspects of systems analysis and design.

Skills and Abilities :

Judgement: The incumbent must exercise good judgement in carrying out his/her duties and responsibilities. Must be able to set his/her own priorities, be flexible, and be able to adapt to a constantly changing workload. This position requires impeccable integrity and judgement. The Regional Security Office conducts a background check prior employment due to the sensitive nature of the work.

Authority to Make Commitments: Incumbent may make commitments following consultation with ISO, IPO, or other USDH non-technical professionals who have direct authority to make commitments for the repair of hardware or the interruption of system use. In consultation with the ISO or IPO, schedules IT installations and upgrades with regional or DOS IT support offices and in some cases will serve as a project manager.
Nature, Level, and Purpose of Contacts: Extensive contact with local IT contractors regarding equipment repair and maintenance. Must deal effectively with management, supervisors, and end-users of all levels at Post to include USDH, and other agencies. Additional outside contacts include, but are not limited to IT professionals, USDH and LE Staff of other Posts with the South African mission, Regional and Department IT support professional, and outside vendors.
