Job Title: Structural BIM Modeller
Location: Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa

Job Summary:

•We are seeking an individual who can join the Cape Town Structures team and be responsible for preparing and refining structural design models, who can participate in multi-disciplinary service-structure coordination efforts and generate layout and detail drawing sheets in the context of residential, commercial and industrial building projects.
•During the BIM process the candidate will analyze and implement information such as measurements and sketches provided by engineers, architects and other members of a project’s professional team. They need to apply their knowledge of design and engineering to illustrate visual instructions that relate to technical specifications, including dimensions, material specification, arrangements, co-ordination and installation procedures. These drawings will then be used for tendering and construction purposes.
•Structural steel and concrete reinforcement detailing (2D and 3D) will form part of their duties.
•Understanding the challenges of multi service co-ordination, attention to detail, eagerness to learn and grow, and the ability to perform under pressure are critical.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

•Generate, modify, and refine structural Revit models and the associated drawing sheets to WSP Standards;
•Interpret and manage the deliverable needs of a project;
•Manage and drive the design input from the engineers and architects; opportunity to take ownership of certain design aspects as well;
•Coordinate and communicate with building owners, clients, consultants, contractors, and project team members (internally and externally). Coordination of structural elements with building services in a multi-disciplinary project delivery;
•Site meetings during construction with engineers and contractors for the updating of designs and models;
•Maintain and develop Revit families and standards;
•Drive project documentation issue procedures via the various online platforms (BIM360, Synergy, Smartsheet, etc.);
•Work on improving workflows, testing new tools, versions and procedures, and share this knowledge with team members (indication of innovative ideas that is submitted with CV would be advantageous);
•Ensure that design and drawing deliveries meet agreed deadlines. Willingness to work extra hours above normal hours to ensure deadlines are met, if and when necessary.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

•Grade 12;
•Project management and/or engineering related qualification advantageous;
•“Autodesk Certified Professional: Revit Structures” accreditation;
•Revit experience on LOD400 project delivery level;
•Multidisciplinary project experience in Revit;
•Rebar detailing experience in CADS RC and CADS RC 3D; Good understanding of SANS10100 and SANS10144;
•Structural steel detailing experience advantageous;
•Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.

KEY COMPETENCIES AND GENERIC SKILLS:

•Knowledge of project delivery life cycles and the associated planning processes;
•Good understanding of BIM as a principle and Revit as a delivery tool;
•Keen interest and positive attitude to engineering design, taking ownership and being proactive in the working environment;
