The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) in South Africa is one of the leading scientific and technology research, development and implementation organisations in Africa. It undertakes directed research and development for socio-economic growth.
The CSIR has x3 Doctoral Scholarship opportunities in Biorefinery Technologies research group in Green Economy competency area within the Natural Resources and the Environment (NRE) unit.
The research will be on valorisation of saw mill wastes and waste chicken feathers.
The research is funded by the Department of Science and Technology (DST) Waste Roadmap. These positions are based in Durban.
The objective of the Biorefinery Research Programme is to implement technologies to make the forest products industry competitive, develop new value chains from waste biomass and grow human capital highly skilled in biorefinery technologies.
The students will work as part of a team on biorefinery technologies (one candidate will work on beneficiation of saw dust waste and the two others will work on beneficiation of waste chicken feathers).
