Job Title: Communication and Marketing Officer
Job Location: University of KwaZulu-Natal, Durban

This is a one year fixed term contract
The Communication and Marketing Officer will be responsible for communicating the organisation’s research endeavours and maintaining its reputation as a credible and effective research organisation.
Responsibilities:
Marketing
- Work with senior management to develop and implement a marketing strategy
- Responsible for planning, managing and implementing all marketing initiatives and activities
- Identify marketing and communications collaboration opportunities with relevant partners,
- organisation
- Produce marketing materials, plan and coordinate marketing activities, to support research
- projects and overall marketing strategy
- Plan, implement and monitor all social media marketing communications activities adhering to
- organisational strategy and ethos
- Create, plan, and publish high-level content for various print and digital platforms
- (website, social media, email, press)
- Work with external designers, developers, printers/service providers and agencies to meet
- marketing needs
- Coordinate all activities with UKZN Corporate Affairs and PR department, research partners
- and relevant collaborating institutions
- Manage media and PR events and activities
- Brand leadership and compliance
- Develop, implement and manage relevant marketing standard operating procedures (style guides,
- website, events, social media etc)
- Build and maintain key contacts and networks
- Track media coverage
- Monitors budgets by comparing and analysing actual results with plans and forecasts
Communications
- Revise, update and implement communication strategy
- Plan, coordinate and implement internal and external communications initiatives and
- activities
- Concept and content development, design, writing, editing/proof reading layout to print
- (newsletters, annual reports, policy briefs etc.)
- Manage Intranet
- Develop, update and maintain website
- Support researchers with communications skills and knowledge
- Develop and maintain internal communications
- Keeps management informed by preparing reports when requested (web analytics, social, events
- etc)
- Liaise with people involved in advocacy work to ensure a synergy between the HEARD
- communication and marketing strategy and the advocacy strategy
- Support senior management through various communications and marketing activities
Knowledge Exchange
- Support and maintain SRHR knowledge sharing platform
- Make use of digital tools to maximise global and local exchange opportunities
Requirements:
- Tertiary Qualification in media, communications, journalism or public relations
- One years’ experience in a similar role
- Write skills to support marketing and communications activities
- Understanding digital communications and marketing
- Social media management and growth
- Editing, proof reading, layout, digital and print design
- Content development and planning
- Event management
- SEO
- Analytics and Reporting
