In South Africa, Pact has led far-reaching, historic efforts to stem the spread of HIV and AIDS and provide critical services to those living with the disease.
We have strengthened the capacity of more than 100 local organizations that have helped carry out a multi-pronged prevention-and-treatment campaign. With funding from the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, or PEPFAR, Pact facilitated the efficient flow of funds to partners, dramatically increasing the scope, scale and quality of services they offer across South Africa, with many of our partners “graduating” to direct funding from the U.S. government.
Currently, Pact is helping to build the capacity of South Africa’s Department of Social Development to better support orphans and vulnerable children, including those affected by abuse, neglect or exploitation. Specifically, the project is strengthening the department’s response to tuberculosis, HIV and other diseases among vulnerable children.
