We use research advocacy and the law to hold people and institution who abuse power to account. In 2017 our work will focus on issues of economic crime during apartheid as well as public meetings on issues of corruption and state capture.

Open Secrets seeks to appoint two Research and Administrative Interns, based in Cape Town.
Duration: Three to six months from April 2017 (exact start day negotiable).

This is envisaged as a full-time position, but could be structured as a part-time commitment.

Responsibilities include assisting in planning and organising a meeting on state capture and undertake research on historic and contemporary economic crime in South Africa.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in planning and organising a meeting on state capture
  • Undertake research on historic and contemporary economic crime in South Africa
  • Read, summarise and archive related books, articles and documents
  • Write reports as well as related occasional articles for our website and social media platforms

Requirements:

  • A committed team player with a strong work ethic and a commitment to social justice issues
  • Strong organisational skills
  • Strong research and writing skills
  • Studies in a related field (law, politics, history, economics, etc.) are preferable.
  • Experience in international law issues are ideal
  • Strong command of basic Microsoft Office programmes (Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Historically disadvantaged applicants are encouraged to apply
