Thanda was founded in 2008 in the rural community of Umtwalume on the South Coast of KZN in an effort to fill the gaps for children where social services, schools, and communities had been stretched thin. Today, we provide over 650 children with Early Childhood Development and daily After-School Education programmes, and run Organic Agriculture Development Programmes for over 200 adults.

Job Title: Content Coordinator, to be based in
Job Location: Hibberdene, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa

Remuneration: R156 000 to R192 000 per annum, depending on skills, qualifications, and experience
 
Responsibilities:

  • On the Ground Content Collection and Visual Storytelling Documenting Project Activities through Photo, Video, and Design
  • Developing Visual Materials for Thanda’s Marketing, Communications and Fundraising Activities (digital and print)
  • Assisting in implementing Thanda’s Marketing, Communications and Fundraising Plans
  • Assisting in implementing Thanda’s PR Strategy

Develop Visual Materials for Thanda’s Marketing, Communications and Fundraising Activities

  • Create high-quality digital communication materials, including photographic, video, copy, and other design content
  • Create high-quality print communication materials, including cards for fundraising campaigns, newsletters, and other print collateral
  • In collaboration with the Marketing, Communications and Partnerships Manager, write blogs, thought-leadership pieces, monthly donor newsletters, and quarterly community newsletter

Create Content for the Thanda Brand

  • Develop business cards, email signatures and other branded materials for the staff and organisation
  • Assist in implementing Thanda’s Marketing, Communications and Fundraising Plans
  • Manage Thanda’s social media and website presence, including daily Facebook and Instagram posts
  • Develop communications particularly suited to specific funders, at the request of the Marketing, Communications and Partnerships Manager
  • Update Thanda’s website to be current with branding and messaging, as requested by the Marketing, Communications and Partnerships Manager

Assist in Implementing Thanda’s PR Strategy

  • Create visual content necessary for Public Relations
  • Draft press releases, as requested by the Marketing, Communications and Partnerships Manager
  • Assist in researching and applying for awards, as requested by the Marketing, Communications and Partnerships Manager

Document Project Activities

  • Serve as photographic liaison between the site and the office – take photos regularly (day to day activities as well as special events)
  • Document project activities through video
  • Manage storage of materials on Box and/or hard drive storage
  • Create and maintain a content base to be used by all Support Team staff in funder and donor communications and reports
  • Ensure that photos necessary for specific donor reports are timeously available to the Reports Manager
  • Maintain the community board at Thanda (select and develop photos)

Provide technical support

  • Assist all teams with ongoing technical support

Provide Administrative support

  • Assist with ad hoc and administrative tasks as needed

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Relevant Diploma
  • Strong graphic design skills
  • Strong photography and editing skills (must have worked with a DSLR)
  • Strong video creation and editing skills
  • Visual presentation skills
  • Personable and able to approach people for portraits or stories
  • High proficiency in relevant design and editing programmes (Light room, Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, and In Design)
  • Experience in print execution of design work
  • Experience in digital marketing
  • Strong sense of brand awareness
  • Creative, yet well-organised personality
  • Copywriting and communications skills preferred
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work well under pressure
  • Flexible and adaptable personality
  • Detail-oriented with ability to manage multiple tasks on tight timelines
  • Responsible, energy, and enthusiasm
  • Zero to two years’ professional work experience
  • Ability and willingness to work evenings and weekends, as needed
  • Valid Driver’s Licence
