The Botswana Institute for Technology Research and Innovation (BITRI) is a premier technology research institute whose mandate is to undertake research, identify and or develop appropriate technologies in line with national priorities and needs of Botswana.

Job Title: LEAD RESEARCHER, SPECIALTY CHEMICALS.

Job Summary:
•Direct and advise on a research agenda focused on Mineral Beneficiation and Materials.
•Create a proper work environment for the division and manage its resources to achieve its goals.
•The candidate will provide technical guidance for BITRI’s programme on beneficiation of coal for the production of domestic fuels and speciality chemicals.
•The candidate will be required to interact with scientists and engineers in developing clean coal technologies that would reduce the carbon footprints associated with the use of coal.
•The candidate will also lead BITRI’s base metals beneficiation programme on developing environmentally friendly processes to extract metal salts from mineral ores and concentrates.

Requirements:
Education:
•A PhD in Chemistry or a related field with demonstrated skills that include catalysts development and catalysis for petrochemicals and associated chemistry, metals chemistry and instrumentation used in characterizing catalysts and catalysis products.

Experience and working knowledge:
•At least 12 years of research experience with proven knowledge catalytic conversion of carbon substrates to value addition products. The experience must include at least 5 years of leading research projects and teams of researchers.
•Excellent in hydrocarbon separation and characterisation.
•Good knowledge in hydrocarbon composition and structure, and related analytical technologies.
•Demonstrated strong leadership skills.
•Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
•Industrial experience will be an added advantage.
•Relevant scientific publications in the area.
