Job Title: School Librarian
Location: Cape Town

The purpose of this poaition is to find a person that will help them in the in the process of opening a library at Walmer Estate Primary School in Cape Town – the Protea Library. They are looking for a person with a passion for books, children and learning to run the Protea Library.

Requirements:

• The ability to work well in a team as well as on your own
• A good, friendly and patient attitude
• Experience with working in schools or with young children
• Proven experience in using computers and basic IT programmes
• Good communication skills
• The ability to multitask
• Good organisational skills
• A love of children and reading
• Creativity and enthusiasm
• The responsibilities for this position include:
• Developing, organizing and updating the library inventory (via the LIBWIN system)
• Handling requests by learners
• Guiding learners and teachers in finding reading and research materials
• Preparing library lessons
• Updating display boards and book displays
• Organise reading activities and promotional events e.g. author readings, storytelling
• sessions and book sales
• Supervise library assistant, intern or any other staff
• Manage and replace library stock, stationery or other equipment
• Oversee the library to ensure cleanliness, order and protection of library resources
