Job Summary:

The General Manager – Manufactured Timber Products will be responsible for providing strategic leadership, operational excellence, and driving business growth within the Manufactured Timber Products divisions of the company. Reporting directly to the Executive Manager, the General Manager will be entrusted with optimizing production processes, maintaining safety standards, fostering innovation, and ensuring overall business success.

With a strong commitment to sustainability, safety, and quality, we strive to be a market leader in the mining timber and manufacturing sector. As we continue to grow and expand, we are seeking and experienced and dynamic General Manager to lead and oversee our Manufactured Timber Products operations.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Strategic Leadership:
  • Develop and implement the long-term vision, mission, and strategic objectives for the Manufacturing Timber Products division.
  • Formulate business plans and set performance targets to achieve financial and operational goals.
  • Monitor industry trends, competitor activities, and regulatory changes to adapt strategies accordingly.
  1. Operational Management:
  • Oversee all aspects of the manufacturing timber operations including sales of manufactured product.
  • Optimize production processes and increase efficiency without compromising quality.
  • Lead and coordinate cross-functional teams to enhance collaboration and synergy.
  1. Safety and Compliance
  • Prioritize and maintain a strong safety culture throughout the organization, promoting best practices and adherence to safety regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and permits related to the manufacturing operations.
  1. Financial Management
  • Develop and manage budgets for the manufacturing timber products activities, ensuring cost control and resource optimization.
  • Analyze financial reports and performance indicators to make data-driven decisions and improve profitability.
  1. Sales
  • Foster positive relationships with suppliers and customers, ensuring exemplary customer service.
  • Develop sales strategies and maximize profitability, by aligning the manufacturing of timber products to these markets.
  1. Talent Management
  • Recruit, mentor, and retain top talent within the mining and manufacturing teams.
  • Provide coaching and professional development opportunities to enhance employee skills and capabilities.
  • Continuous Improvement and Innovation:
  • Promote a culture of innovation, encouraging new ideas and technologies that improve productivity and sustainability.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance operational efficiency.


Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in: Forestry or Wood Technology, or a related field.
  • Proven experience (at least 10 years) in a combination of forestry, manufacturing, and sales, with a track record of successful leadership and business growth.
  • Strong sales background, with a good understanding of forestry supply chain from genetics to final market.
  • Knowledge of the forest manufacturing processes, technologies, and industry best practices preferable.
  • Strong understanding of health, safety, and environmental regulations related to forestry and manufacturing operations in South Africa.
  • Excellent financial acumen with the ability to manage budgets, analyze financial data, and make informed decisions.
  • Outstanding communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with various stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead diverse teams, foster a collaborative culture, and drive performance excellence.
