DESCRIPTION OF THE JOB

The incumbent will form part of a small dedicated geophysical survey team operating state of the art autonomous underwater vehicles (AUV’s) and conventional marine geophysical systems in support of

marine diamond mining exploration and resource development.

The successful incumbent will be responsible for supporting the operation by operating, maintaining and repairing the production equipment for the GeoSurvey team. This is a seagoing position with a focus on electronics.

Should the incumbent not have all the preferred experience, they will undertake formal training sponsored by the Company.

 

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:

  • Operate AUV and other geophysical survey and ancillary equipment.
  • Provide technical support to daily offshore Geosurvey operations
  • Diagnose problems with geophysical, survey, electronic, software systems and propose and implement solutions / repairs to restore system availability.
  • Undertake planned maintenance and repairs of Geosurvey systems
  • Partake in mobilizations and demobilizations of survey vessels. Install, test and commission
  • surface and subsurface survey positioning systems, software and geophysical systems.
  • Analyze engineering statistics and write reports to improve system reliability.

SKILLS/ COMPETENCIES

Technical

  • A strong electronic background (background in basic software programming will be beneficial)
  • Understanding and exposure to maintenance processes
  • Technical problem solving, analytical thinking, fault finding at component level
  • Systematic approach in fault finding electronic equipment
  • Understanding of IT systems skills and networking

Non-Technical

  • Good communication skills
  • Strong Analytical Ability
  • Ability to operate under high-pressure
  • Ability to interact as a member of a small multi-disciplinary

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Diploma / Degree in electrical / electronic engineering (light current)  / Computer Science or related subjects.
  • Incumbent must have a desire and ability to work at sea.
