The ideal candidate for this vacancy will be a candidate with at least five years 5 – 10 years practical experience within the Engineering maintenance field, ideally within pharmaceutical manufacturing.

 

 

 

 

Job Title: Maintenance Controller – Utilities
Location: Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape, South Africa

Job Summary:
The main purpose of the position is to plan, schedule, co-ordinate and control the activities of the maintenance teams within the Utilities department.

General shared Duties:
1.Optimise & maintain plant:
-Manage the planning and execution of maintenance activities; mechanical, electrical and basic automation
-Agree & implement daily plans with customers (production / process)
-Manage job observations and plan follow on work
-Lead the team in problem solving and preventative maintenance programme development
-Facilitate identification and acquisition of required critical spares & equipment documentation

2.Manage compliance to Quality Management Systems:
-Drive QMS process compliance in team
-Ensure adherence to all initiatives aimed at minimising impact of technical interventions on product quality
-Responsible to conduct investigations and root cause analysis through Kabitrack

3.Manage CMMS data integrity and promote optimal usage:
-Ensure equipment reliability business processes are adhered to
-Generate reports out of the system
-Manage matters emanating from system reports

4.Develop teams and team members:
-Set, update and monitor achievement of individual goals/KPI’s
-Coach and train/arrange training of team members
-Develop competencies of team members
-Conduct career discussions with team members

Budget and Cost Control:
5.Control and optimise the cost within the department
6.Set quality and performance KPI’s for the department and monitor the departmental performance on a defined frequency
7.Continuously improve processes to introduce World Class Manufacturing practices within the business
8.Identify opportunities for productivity and efficiency improvements
9.Manage budget and expenditure
-Participation in budget development, monitoring and control for area of responsibility
-Adhering to procedures for stock and non-stock acquisitions

Human Resources Management:
10.Manage all personnel in the department including disciplinary procedures
11.Ensure that all personnel in the department is developed and trained as required by the various job functions
12.Recruitment of staff
13.Staff development regarding identifying needs and opportunities
14.Performance Management evaluation
15.Review salaries and promotions if applicable
16.Implementation of equity plan as set out in the Employment Equity Policy

17.From time to time carry out other jobs within the department / factory, which are consistent with the grade, qualification and training of the incumbent
Requirements
The minimum education is an N6 with trade or S4/N.Dip in Engineering or N.Dip in another relevant qualification.
Previous supervisory experience preferred.

The key competencies are as follows:
•Cleanroom Gowning Competency
•Fundamental understanding of Utility requirements of site manufacturing and laboratory processes
•Knowledge of industry best practice maintenance business processes and proficiency at planning maintenance activities
•Aseptic and Terminally Sterilised pharmaceutical manufacturing process knowledge (LVP & SVP)
•Working knowledge of an ICH Q10 Quality Management System and ability to complete to desired standard Risk Assessments, Change Controls and Events stemming from equipment in area of responsibility
•Proficiency in using Computerised Maintenance Management System for maintenance planning and scheduling as well as report data interpretation.
•Application of current data integrity standards
•Ability to draw up and manage an expense budget to cover maintenance requirements of a department
•Understand GMP requirements for the respective areas serviced by Utilities
•Fundamental understanding of functionality of equipment within Production
•Ability to draft and enforce compliance to relevant SOP’s, Work instructions and quick fix routines for equipment in area of responsibility.
•Proficiency at conducting detailed Root Cause Analysis with at least the 5 Why and Fishbone (Ishikawa) diagram
