The CEO has overall responsibility for developing, planning, implementing and integrating the strategic direction of the Payments Association of South Africa in the interest of its Members, employees and the National Payments System (NPS). The CEO will need to be a prudent manager and an inspiring leader who will shape and influence the future of the organisation and payments landscape.
PASA is the Payment System Management Body (PSMB) recognised by the South African Reserve Bank (SARB), in terms of the National Payment System Act of 1998, to organise, manage and regulate the participation of its Members in the payment system.

Key stakeholder management and interaction
Internal: PASA Council and Council Committees, PASA Structures, executives and employees
External: SARB NPSD, PASA Members, Relevant Regulators, PASA Structures, PSOs, SOs, TPPPs, ICPACE colleagues, Users, and Service Providers including MNOs and ISPs
Education and experience
•Relevant post-graduate degree
•Proven experience as CEO or in other managerial position
•+10 years’ experience at an executive level preferably within the financial services industry and with exposure to the payments environment
•Ability to build consensus and develop relationships among Executives, Councillors, Members, Regulators, other stakeholders and Employees
•Lead people in a changing Regulatory and Payments environment
•Proven negotiation skills
•Proven track record of initiating change and influencing outcomes.
•Thrive in extended periods of uncertainty
•Ability to understand new issues quickly and make decisions
•Ability to lead change in an inspiring manner.
•Ability to inspire confidence and create trust
•Ability to work under pressure, plan personal workload effectively and delegate
•In-depth knowledge of corporate governance and general management good practices

•Advanced analytical abilities and problem-solving skills
•Excellent communication (verbal and written) and public speaking skills
The CEO will be responsible to –
•Develop high-quality business plans and ensure their alignment with the short-term and long-term objectives and strategies of the organisation as well as with national and NPS policy objectives
•Lead and motivate the executive office to advance employee engagement and develop a high performing team
•Oversee all operations and PASA activities to ensure they produce the desired results and are consistent with the overall strategy and mission of PASA.
•Put a robust process in place to ensure adherence to legal guidelines, regulations, directives, frameworks and policies to maintain and enhance NPS operations
•Ensure PASA complies with good business ethics and sound governance principles
•Review financial and non-financial activities and reports to devise solutions or improvements
•Build strong relationships with and act as a point of contact for all key stakeholders
•Build alliances and partnerships with similar payment associations internationally
•Build payments industry capacity
