Thanda is currently seeking an Impact Coordinator. The Impact Coordinator plays an important role within Thanda’s Monitoring & Evaluation team and is responsible for administering Thanda’s M&E systems. She/he works closely with the Executive Director and Head of Operational Development to design appropriate tools (both qualitative and quantitative) to monitor and evaluate Thanda’s various programmes. Assisted by the M&E fieldworker, the Impact Coordinator collects multiple data sets from the programmes. The Impact Coordinator oversees the M&E Fieldworker’s collection of data and administration of tools, and needs to be able to provide the M&E Fieldworker with constant support and training in data collection activities.

 

 

Job Title: Impact Coordinator (Monitoring & Evaluation)
Location: South Africa

The Impact Coordinator is tasked with analysing qualitative and quantitative data which has been collected, and compiles internal reports at regular intervals. She/he works with the Project and Report Manager to ensure that the M&E results are available timeously for use in reports to donors and funders. An important aspect of this role is regularly feeding information back to programme staff and stakeholders to increase participation and learning amongst staff and beneficiaries. She/he also works with Thanda’s directors, managers, and staff to understand the results of M&E as these play a part in guiding strategy and programme design.

As the Impact Coordinator is responsible for a large amount of data entry, attention to detail is an essential skill for this job. An ideal candidate for this role will have a comprehensive understanding of qualitative and quantitative research methods, and the ability to design M&E tools. We would like to find someone for this role who has a solid understanding of traditional research methodologies and M&E frameworks, but is also excited about developing new and innovative ways of measuring the impact of our unique programmes. Excellent organisational skills are extremely important for this role.

This is a full time position based in our Administrative office in Hibberdene, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, and will require frequent travel (40 kms) to our rural Community Centre for the day. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Coordinate Educational Monitoring & Evaluation Activities
  • Coordinate Agricultural Monitoring & Evaluation Activities
  • M&E data entry
  • Analyse data and write internal reports
  • Provide Feedback on M&E results to programme staff on a regular basis

Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree; OR
  • Bachelor’s Degree with at least one year’s experience in research and/or monitoring and evaluation.

Detailed Job Description – Impact Coordinator

1. Coordinate Educational Monitoring & Evaluation Activities This responsibility includes the following activities:

  • Working with the Executive Director, Programme Director and/or Head of Operational Development to design new M&E tools and refine existing M&E tools to measure skills acquisition by children enrolled in After-School programmes and Early Childhood Development programmes;
  • Ensure that baseline and final assessments are sent out, and conducted, timeously;
  • As necessary, train M&E Fieldworker in using data collection tools;
  • Oversee data collection by M&E Fieldworker;
  • Enter data all relevant data timeously;
  • Thoroughly analyse data and compile internal reports;
  • Ensure that internal reports are available for use by Project and Reports Manager in reporting to donors and funders;
  • Ensure that feedback sessions happen frequently with facilitators to ensure programmes are informed by M&E and that M&E tools are aligned with the curriculum;
  • Ensure that relevant and user-friendly useful statistics and results of M&E are available to the Head of Development, Marketing and Partnerships Manager, and the Communications Coordinator for use in promotional materials and funding applications

2. Coordinate Organic Farming Monitoring & Evaluation Activities. This responsibility includes the following activities:

  • Liaise with Organic Farming Manager to ensure that Organic Farming Team has the necessary tools for quarterly data collection activities;
  • Ensure Organic Farming data is submitted to the office by the date due;
  • Work with Organic Farming Manager, Executive Director and Programme Director to investigate digital solutions to collecting agriculture data;
  • Enter data all relevant data timeously;
  • Analyse data and compile internal quarterly reports;
  • Ensure that internal reports are available for use by Project and Reports Manager in reporting to donors and funders;
  • Ensure that relevant and user-friendly useful statistics and results of M&E are available to the Head of Development, Marketing and Partnerships Manager, and the Communications coordinator for use in promotional materials and funding applications.
  • Engage in feedback sessions with the Organic Farming team to give feedback quarterly results and gather additional information speaking to mentors in order to better understand and contextualize trends.
  • In collaboration with the Head of Operational Development, develop new ways of streamlining processes and increase M&E effectiveness. This responsibility includes the following activities:
    • Come up with ways to improve data collection, through new techniques or methodologies;
    • Come up with ways to improve data entry processes;
    • Research innovative ways to measure impact.

3. Ensure that data collected on site is accessible to the Support Team. This responsibility includes the following activities:

  • Liaise with Senior Programmes Manager and M&E Fieldworker to ensure that Monthly Programme Report are submitted by the due date (beginning of each month);
  • Use Monthly Programme Report to timeously update education report spreadsheet;
  • Assist Managers with amending or creating new M&E tools for use on site (such as spreadsheets or registers);
  • Ensure all data collected on site is returned to the office, entered and, where appropriate, analysed.

4. Ensure that specific M&E required by donors and partners is available for reporting purposes.

5. Design and lead additional studies as directed by the Executive director and/or The Head of Operational Development

6. Research and model development. This responsibility includes the following activities:

  • Conduct research as requested by Executive Director
  • Create models to communicate Thanda’s unique approaches
