Gender Links, a dynamic Southern African NGO based in Johannesburg, promoting gender equality and justice, seeks the services of experienced, highly motivated and committed individuals to fill the following positions:

Job Title: Director of Programmes
Job Location: Johannesburg

This senior level post is for a self-motivated individual with strong background in Gender, Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), and a proven track record of feminist leadership. Reporting to the CEO, and working closely with the Director of Operations

Responsibilities:

  • Fund raising to grow and sustain the organisation’s programme work
  • Oversight of GL’s Southern Africa Gender Protocol Alliance, Gender Justice & Governance and Media Programmes, in which SRHR is a cross-cutting theme
  • Management and reporting on regional grants relating to these programmes
  • Oversight of GLs Results for Change framework that includes Monitoring, Evaluation, Knowledge, Learning, Innovation and Value for Money.

Requirements:

  • A relevant post-graduate social sciences degree on or including gender studies
  • Strong strategic, conceptual and operational skills
  • Research, advocacy and training skills and at least ten years’ experience of results-based management, preferably in an NGO environment
  • Proven financial, fund raising and report writing skills
  • Excellent networking and inter-personal skills
  • Excellent verbal, analytical, writing and editing skills are a must.
  • The successful candidate will be a national of Southern Africa, and have experience of working in the region
  • Facility with the languages spoken in the region other than English will be an advantage

Job Title: Head – Gender Justice & Governance
Job Location: Johannesburg

This post involves managing a team of country managers in eight Southern African countries to support Centres of Excellence (COE) for Gender in Local Government. The COE include flagship programmes and campaigns for ending GBV, Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights campaigns, and the Sunrise Campaign that links Local Economic Development Plans with entrepreneurship training for survivors of gender violence

Requirements:

  • A Masters’ Degree in governance or a relevant social science field, including or focusing on gender
  • A strong grounding in, and commitment to, gender and development
  • Minimum of eight years’ experience, three of these at management level
  • Knowledge of local government and how it works in the Southern African region
  • Previous experience of working in or with local government would be an advantage
  • Excellent fund raising skills, facilitation, team building, mentoring and training
  • Report writing, media, communication and IT skills
  • Administrative, logistic and management skills are critical.
  • The successful candidate will be a national of Southern Africa and have experience of working in the region.
  • Residency in South Africa, and facility with official languages of the region in addition to English, would be an advantage

Job Title: Grants Manager
Job Location: Johannesburg

Reporting to the GL Services and Training Manager, and working closely with the Chief Executive Officer,  the Grants Manager will be responsible for managing a sub-granting programme to women’s rights organisations in South Africa on behalf of a funder.

The successful candidate will be:

  • A multi-tasker with strong ability to work under pressure
  • Have the ability to draw up grant calls
  • Conduct preliminary assessment of grant proposals
  • Support the appraisal process by an independent committee
  • Contract grantees
  • Support implementation and ensure timely and thorough compliance and grant reporting

Requirements:

  • A postgraduate degree in Humanitarian Science or Business Administration
  • Minimum of seven years’ of professional experience with three of these in NGO environment
  • Prior experience of managing a grant portfolio
  • Experience in project management with proven experience in managing and supervising advocacy projects
  • Strong strategic, conceptual and operational skills
  • Excellent verbal, analytical, writing and editing skills, including public presentation skills, are required.
  • Candidates should be South African. Facility with South African languages other than English will be an advantage

Job Title: Grants finance officer
Job Location: Johannesburg

Reporting to the Grants Manager and working closely with the Director of Operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversight of the preparation of budgets
  • Compliance with financial policies
  • Donor reporting and statutory requirements by Implementing Partners
  • Reviewing monthly finance reports of Implementing Partners
  • Reviewing monthly and year-to-date spend vs budget reports
  • Updating and maintain finance reporting tools

Requirements:

  • A postgraduate degree or specialised certification in Accounting/Commerce or Professional qualification at level 2, e.g. CIS, CIMA
  • Minimum of five years of professional experience with at least three of these in an NGO environment
  • Proven track record of managing multiple countries and donors.
  • Good knowledge and experience of Sage Pastel Evolution is non-negotiable
