The Rape Crisis Cape Town Trust is a social profit organisation that promotes an end to violence against women, specifically rape, and assists women to achieve their right to live free of violence by reducing the trauma experienced by rape survivors, encouraging reporting of rape incidents, facilitating the active engagement of communities in challenging high rape rates and advocating for a stronger criminal justice system.

Job Title: Coordinator for the Thuthuzela Care Centre
Job Location: Cape Town
Start: 1 October 2018
Salary: R12 200 and R14 500 per month as a total cost to company package depending on skills and experience

The purpose of the Coordinator is to offer social work services to rape survivors and their families who present at these centres to strengthen the containment service offered by the lay counsellors. Work hand in hand with a second TCC coordinator responsible for the supervision and support of the lay counsellors, attend coordination meetings with TCC stakeholders, assist with data verification of cases for reporting purposes and to play a part in the successful implementation of all operational plans and activities that advance the organisation as a whole.

Responsibilities:

Thuthuzela Care Centre Services

  • Ensure that the project meets programme targets for rape care centres
  • Ensure that cases referred by the lay counsellors are assessed and social work services offered where possible, referring cases where appropriate
  • Assist the other TCC coordinator to convene monthly staff meetings
  • Supervise and support social auxiliary workers offering follow up services to clients seen at the TCC
  • Attend routine stakeholder engagements relating to the TCCs
  • Ensure teamwork with administrative and other support services
  • Report on programme outputs and outcomes to the operations manager
  • Assess the macro and micro environments, adapting effectively to change and guiding the team appropriately in doing so
  • Engage in networking that supports the development of collaborative relationships with programme stakeholders and builds a stronger referral network for clients
  • Meet statutory obligations for rape survivors at the TCC

Requirements:

  • Qualified social worker with proof of registration
  • Relevant police clearance
  • Strong computer literacy
  • Driver’s licence and own car required
  • No job experience is necessary as this is an entry level position and new graduates are welcome to apply
